Irene Vasquez, previously known as "Bitter Creek Betty" and "Rose Doe," was a woman found murdered in Sweetwater, Wyoming, on March 1, 1992. She is one of three known victims of a previously unidentified serial killer.
She was identified in May 2022, with her identification being announced in May 2025.
Case
Discovery
A truck driver spotted Vasquez's frozen body lying face down in the snow at a rest area known as Bitter Creek. The site was near the westbound side of Interstate 80 and 40 miles east of Rock Springs, Wyoming. She was unclothed except for a gold-colored necklace and a plain gold-colored wedding-style ring. A pair of pink panties and a pair of sweatpants were found nearby. The rest of her clothing was never recovered.
Her body appeared to have been dumped from a vehicle at a hilltop and stopped at the bottom of a slope. Investigators classified her case as a homicide, but the exact method of murder remains unclear. An object, possibly an ice pick, had penetrated her left nostril and sphenoid bone. It remains unclear whether this occurred during the homicide or in the course of body recovery. Examiners found signs of strangulation, beating trauma to the face and jaw, as well as sexual assault to both lower body cavities.
Traces of blood at the scene did not belong to the victim, suggesting a possible struggle. Investigators believe she may have been killed elsewhere and that her body was later left at the location between October 1991 and February 1992.
Investigation
Investigators later linked Vasquez's case to the murders of 33-year-old Pamela "Rose" Aldridge McCall and Sheridan County Jane Doe through DNA evidence. Pamela McCall enjoyed traveling, frequently hitchhiked, and often traveled with truckers. She was reportedly last seen at a truck stop in Tennessee. An individual also recalled her stating that she was going on a ride with a trucker. Her body was later located near an Interstate 65 off-ramp in Spring Hill, Tennessee, on March 10, 1991.
McCall reportedly was found wearing a mini-skirt and a pullover sweatshirt. Her bra had been pulled up above her chest, and the fabric surrounding her private area was cut out of her pantyhose. Her socks and shoes were missing and never recovered. Her body showed evidence of sexual assault, blunt-force trauma, and manual strangulation. She was also pregnant at the time of her murder.
The body of Sheridan County Jane Doe was discovered along Interstate 80 in Sheridan County, Wyoming, on April 13, 1992.
Suspect
DNA recovered from all three cases was matched to Clark Perry Baldwin, an ex-long-haul trucker born on August 22, 1961, in Nashua, Iowa. Authorities arrested the then 58-year-old Baldwin at his apartment in Waterloo, Iowa, on May 6, 2020. In May 2025, he was found guilty of the murder of Pamela McCall and given a life sentence. Baldwin is awaiting extradition to Wyoming to face charges related to the deaths of Vasquez and Sheridan County Jane Doe.
