Unidentified Wiki

Holly Ann Campiglia (December 1, 1958 - c. Summer 1980) was a young woman found murdered in Dixon, Solano County, California in August 1980. Originally from New Jersey, Campiglia eventually traveled to California after she was last seen in June 1980. Her remains were located two months later, and she remained unidentified until 1992.

On February 27, 2023, police identified her killer as 76 year old Herman Lee Hobbs. Hobbs was already in prison for killing a 13 year old girl and police believe that he may have been responsible for numerous other deaths.

Background[]

The New Jersey college student had a history of mental health issues that had started manifesting while she was in high school. While on the way to a counseling center, she had jumped from her mother's car. She had a history of hitchhiking and the family last heard from her in June 1980 and that they believed she was in Sacramento.

Identification[]

Although Holly was reported missing in June 1980, she had dropped accidentally from missing persons database used by law enforcement a few weeks before her body was found.

In 1992, when the family had learned this, they re-added her file and over a month later, Solano County detectives were able to match her to the Dixon Jane Doe found twelve years earlier.
