"H. L. Martin" was the possible name of a man whose body was found along a public highway one mile west of Exendine, Oklahoma, on September 24, 1927. He was beaten and shot to death.
Case[]
This body was found on September 24, 1927, and reported to Caddo County officers, who removed the body from the scene and brought it to Anadarko using a Gish ambulance. Based on decomposition of the body, he'd been dead for about 2 days. A slip of the paper was found on the body with the name "H. L. Martin" on it, and appeared to be the only identifying document on his person; visual identification was impossible due to traumatic facial injuries. He had been shot above the left eye and hit with a blunt instrument, possibly an auto jack. It was noted that many tourists were passing through the area at the time, making finding clues in the case hard. The body is buried in the pauper's section of Anadarko Cemetery (now Memory Lane Cemetery).
