"Golo" was the nickname of a man who died of lung cancer at a hospital in Calgary, Alberta on May 21, 2009. After his death, it was discovered the identity he used at the hospital was stolen.

Case[]

On May 21, 2009, a man was admitted to the Foothills Hospital for lung cancer and later passed away that day. He gave an unrevealed name, address, health care number, and date of birth and was buried under this name at Queen's Park Cemetery. His funeral and burial was paid by a friend listed on hospital forms as an emergency contact.

On April 20, 2010, a man involved in a routine traffic stop produced identification matching the deceased man. Fingerprints of the man confirmed his identity and it was discovered the deceased man stole this man's identity, and according to authorities, was able to get away with it because there was not a photo ID on the healthcare card the deceased man used. The identity of the man whose identity was stolen was not publicly revealed and he did not want to meet the press as he was "grossly annoyed" of what happened to him.

According to the man whose identity was stolen, the unknown man was a casual acquaintance he met through gambling at casinos. He only knew him as "Golo," a Chinese nickname for "tall guy." "Golo" had lived in Calgary for years. He may have also used several names such as "Fo Le Lai," "Fu Le Lai," and/or "Fuk Le Lai."

Because every Canadian citizen qualify for healthcare authorities considered it strange that "Golo" wanted to steal his friend's identity. It is possible "Golo" may have been in the country illegally.
