"Girl in the Box" was the nickname given to a child whose decapitated remains were found in the Schuylkill River in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, in 1962.
Case[]
The child's remains were found inside a milk crate. She had been decapitated and had severe postmortem burns to her back and feet. A newspaper, dated March 11, 1962, was found with the body, which had been wrapped in a white apron and a piece of clear blue plastic. The milk crate had been weighted with bricks, and there were signs of a previous failed dump attempt by incineration.
In 2018, an attempt was made to exhume eight unmarked graves of unidentified persons in Philadelphia, with hers being one of them. Ultimately, her plot was the only one that was empty.
