For the infant found in 1953 in West Virginia, see Little Miss X (1953)

"Little Miss X" was the nickname given to an adolescent female whose skeletal remains were found on Halloween of 1958. Her cause of death is unknown but is being investigated as a homicide.

Case[]

On October 31, 1958, a man and his son hunting in the area found her remains. She was originally believed to be an adult man, but this was later corrected. A sketch was created by Barton Wright in hopes to identify her. Wright also created a clay reconstruction of the victim, which is unavailable for unknown reasons.

In 1962, a potential match between her and 10-year-old Connie Smith, who ran away from her summer camp in 1952, came to the attention of investigators. They exhumed Little Miss X's remains to compare her to Connie, but they determined the remains didn't belong to her, though this is now being reexamined.

Later investigators have theorized that 14-year-old Pinky Redman, a girl who was last seen with her boyfriend in 1958, could be Little Miss X. The letters on the nail file case found with the remains matched Pinky's. Despite this, investigators have ruled out Pinky from the case for unknown reasons.

Another woman, 20-year-old Mary Begay has also been speculated to be Little Miss X. The clothing she was last seen wearing matched the clothing found with the remains. Despite this, Mary was excluded from the case for unknown reasons.

After Little Miss X's exhumation in 1962 to compare her to Connie Smith, poor record-keeping caused investigators to lose the remains, though they believe they are buried in the Citizen's Cemetery. The NCMEC created a reconstruction in recent years to help identify her.

Characteristics[]

  • Reddish or brown hair that was dyed a lighter brown color.
  • Her hair was wavy, but it may not have been natural.
  • Her teeth were in good condition and she had seven fillings.

Clothing and accessories[]

  • Although Little Miss X was found nude, the following clothing was found near the body and they appeared to be too big for her:
    • A short-sleeved, white cardigan.
    • A white, cotton Maidenform Alloette bra in a size 34C.
    • White rayon underwear in a size small with an elastic top and bottom.
    • Brown, red, and green patterned capri pants from World Gamons GRAFF California Wear.
  • An 18" 10 karat gold chain with tiny, curb-style links.

Belongings[]

  • A small jar of Ponds cold cream.
  • A powder puff with traces of suntan colored powder.
  • A small, blue plastic nail file with the letter "P" indented in script and the letter "R" in hand print. This would lead people to believe that the victim was Pinky Redman.
  • A white, nylon comb.
