Fatima Raquel Fernandez was a woman who was killed by her boyfriend in 2006. She was identified by fingerprints the following year.
Case[]
Fatima, an undocumented immigrant from Nicaragua, lived with her boyfriend, Elvin Omar Aguilar, and their young daughter in South San Francisco. Sometime in January 2006, Fatima called her aunt in Nicaragua and stated that she had recently been released from a hospital where she was treated for injuries that occurred during a domestic dispute with Aguilar, and had been kicked out of their apartment by him. This phone call was the last time Fatima's family heard from her.
On March 18, 2006, the charred remains of a young woman wrapped in a comforter were found near a parking lot at Greyhound Rock State Park in Davenport, California. It was determined that the woman, who was initially believed to be Asian, had been stabbed to death before being doused with gasoline and set on fire. Investigators ran her fingerprints, but found no matches.
On November 11, 2007, Julia Vargas, a part-time caretaker for Fatima's daughter, called police to report her as missing. When police talked to Aguilar, he claimed that Fatima had left him and moved in with a different man, However, he eventually also claimed that she had gone to Jalisco, Mexico, or back to Nicaragua. During the investigation, similarities between Fatima and the unidentified woman in Davenport became clear, leading to her identification. Aguilar confessed to stabbing Fatima during an argument and disposing of her body at Greyhound Rock.
