Everette Guy Travis was a man whose skeletal remains were found in Cape Girardeau County, Missouri in 1981 and 1988. He was identified in October 2022 by Othram Inc.
Kenneth Derring had previously been convicted of his murder following his disappearance on June 16, 1977.
Case[]
Travis grew up in Texas and received a degree in Maths from Texas A&M. He was said to be an alcoholic in college and after he fell out of a window during an episode, he told his family he wanted to 'get right with Jesus'. He started picking up hitchhikers and trying to spread the word of Jesus to them. At the time of his death, he was training to be a mechanic.
He picked up Kenneth Derring as a hitchhiker in the summer of 1977 in Arkansas. Derring was arrested after he was caught trying to sell Travis' car. Derring was convicted of the murder, despite no body being found. Investigators were led to believe Derring had dumped Travis' body in the Mississippi River, but in truth he had dumped the remains in a wooded area off the I-55.
