Elaine Rose Armstrong (1930 - October 16, 1981), formerly known by the nickname "Bag Lady", was a woman who was found murdered in San Diego, California, in 1981.
She was identified by Othram in December 2023.
Case[]
On October 16, 1981, the victim was discovered behind Vick's Office Supplies at 1753 Garnet Avenue in San Diego, California. She had been stabbed in the neck and beaten, and her body had been set on fire.
The woman was known in the area to residents and businesses as she was seen almost daily. She was a transient known as "Bag Lady." Despite this, law enforcement could not learn her true identity for the next 42 years.
Genetic genealogy conducted by Othram in 2023 identified her as Elaine Rose Armstrong, originally from Michigan.
