The DC Area Hotel Rapist is the case name given to an unidentified man who, from 1998 to 2006, committed a series of sexual assaults in hotel rooms within Washington, D.C. and its metropolitan area.
Case[]
The incidents all involved the man sneaking into hotel rooms being tended to by housekeepers, closing the door, and proceeding to rape said housekeepers. The man often threatened the victims' lives at knifepoint or via strangulation instruments. The incidents all occurred in DC, Maryland, and Virginia; six of nine known incidents have been linked to a single perpetrator via DNA testing. Incidents are known to have occurred in 1998, 2002, 2003, 2005, and 2006.
Victims reported the man to be a black man in his 20s or 30s during the incidents.
Apart from DNA, two pieces of evidence have been recovered from the scene: a box cutter which was left behind by the attacker in a 2002 attack, and a ring worn by the suspect which came off during a 2003 attack. The box cutter had "DEBBIE" written across it in what appeared to be black permanent marker.
Investigators believe the suspect to be very observant as he fled the scenes without committing rapes on several occasions when suspicious activity was reported. On June 13, 2003, for example, he was spotted trying to open doors in a hotel, before fleeing the scene in a black Nissan Sentra.
