Clark County John Doe was a man whose skeletal remains were found in a barrel on the coast of Lake Mead after drought uncovered it.

Case

On May 1, 2022, a married couple called the police after approaching a woman who screamed in terror after discovering a corpse inside a barrel at Hemenway Harbor off of Lake Mead.

Investigators concluded the victim was a male, and the cause of death was from a gunshot. They believe the victim was murdered some time in the mid 1970s or early 1980s. The barrel would've likely sunk dozens of feet underwater due to the fact the Lake Mead once had more water in it prior to its severe drought.

The decedent is widely believed to be the victim of a mafia due to the fact that mafias had large stakes in Las Vegas' casinos during the time.

Another barrel was found nearby, although no remains were found in it.

Six days after the discovery of the remains, a second set of remains were found in Callville Bay by two paddleboarders. Authorities speculate there are more remains in Lake Mead that will be discovered as water levels recede.

Characteristics

  • Was found wearing 1970s-era clothes that were available at Kmart during the time.
