Cynthia May "Cindy" Hernandez (June 7, 1958 - August 26, 1976) was a young woman who was murdered in 1976.

Case[]

On August 26, 1976, Cindy Hernandez left her home in Glendale, California to see a movie at the Fox Twin Theaters in nearby Covina. The following day, her family went to the theater to look for her, as she had failed to come home. Once there, they found Cindy's car abandoned in the parking lot, and promptly filed a missing person's report.

On October 14 on the same year, a dog unearthed a human skull from a shallow grave near Twin Peaks, California. The remains were initially thought to be historical, but this was disproven in 2009, when DNA linked the skull to rib bones found at a cabin belonging to Larry James Allred, who had been charged with kidnapping and sexual assault in a separate case. In 2014, DNA from the remains was matched to samples from Cindy's mother and sister.

On the day of Cindy's disappearance, Allred approached her in the parking lot of the movie theater and forced her into his truck at knifepoint. One in the truck, Allred attempted to restrain her, but panicked when she fought back, eventually strangling her to death. In 2016, Allred was found guilty of first-degree murder in the case and sentenced to life in prison.
