Chongori Doe was a prisoner of war recovered from the Chongori Concentration Camp in North Korea during the Korean War. They are currently buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery in Busan, South Korea, though there is no record of what country they originated from.

Case[]

From 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War, North Korea operated several reeducation camps to hold prisoners of war from both South Korea and foreign forces as well as abducted South Korean citizens. Public executions were common in the camps without any sort of trial or due process for the victim. Most prisoners of war abducted during the Korean War were presumed to have been dead once the war ended in 1953 or killed at a later time due to North Korea's refusal to return most of its detainees in the prisoner exchange during the 1953 Korean Armistice Agreement. The exact number of prisoners North Korea accumulated during the war is currently unknown, though interest in the remaining prisoners of war was renewed when Cho Chang-ho, a South Korean soldier during the war, escaped North Korea in 1994 after being presumed dead.

Chongori Doe is amongst the uncalculated dead that was recovered from the camps. Due to the decedent being buried in the United Nations Memorial Cemetery, it is assumed that they were a soldier in the United Nations Command army that aided South Korea in the Korean War. There is no further leads as to what country in the Command the decedent hailed from.
