Case[]

The decedent was discovered on a beach in Galveston, Texas on May 10, 2020. After initial attempts to identify him were unsuccessful, investigators commissioned a forensic sketch to be created by artist Lois Gibson. They later submitted his case to Othram in hopes to solve the case through genetic genealogy.

After Othram released their initial findings of his DNA analysis, which suggested a substantial part of his ancestry was Somali or Kenyan Bantu, investigators were able to narrow down a list of potential matches to missing persons who fit that description and selected Calvin Mwambo as a possible candidate. The identification was ultimately confirmed using fingerprints. Mbwambo was a foreign exchange student from Tanzania who had been attending the Cypress Center, a satellite campus of Lone Star College, and lost contact with his family in May 2020.
