Brufut Darusalam John Doe was a man found in a forest outside Brufut Darusalam village in The Gambia. The decedent had been beaten to death, was wrapped in two separate sacks, and had his legs shackled together with a rope.

Case[]

On 25 April 2021, at 9:00 PM, a man named Muhammed Manneh was living in Brufut Darusalam village in The Gambia. While on his way to work, a woman approached him and told Manneh that her husband suspected the sacks in the forest contained a dead body. Starting on 23 April, villagers and Menah and his co-workers noticed sacks in the Brufut Bird Watching Forest but assumed that they were used to dispose of waste. Menah and his co-workers approached the sacks and were struck by a foul odour. Upon closer examination, they discovered that there was a dead body inside the sacks. After the discovery, they informed the village elders and police.

The police, National Intelligence Agency agents and paramilitary officials questioned all the residents about the body. Still, nobody was reported missing, and the decedent was allegedly the first person to be murdered in the village in the last two years. The body belonged to a male who was in an advanced state of decomposition and had been disposed of inside two separate sacks, and his feet were tied together with a rope. The police determined that the decedent's death was a homicide based on several bruises and his disfigured face, indicating that he had likely been beaten to death. His body was transferred to Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital for autopsy. A coroner placed the decedent's age at around 25-30 and concluded that he had been dead for several days. The only belonging noted was a Gambia Democratic Congress (GDC) shirt, and no identification was found.

After the decedent's body was removed, health officials and firefighters were observed fumigating the scene. The police put out a public appeal urging citizens to desist from spreading misinformation and rumors relating to the decedent's case and requested those with information to come forward; however, Gambian authorities have never publicly released if they uncovered any leads.
