Bjelašnica Doe was an individual whose partial skeletal remains were discovered in an abandoned military installation by members of the Bosnian Special Forces. The authorities consider the decedent's death a homicide.
Case[]
On 22 October 2020, members of the Bosnian special forces were conducting a training exercise on Bjelašnica. Once they entered a former military installation the officers discovered human remains. The remains were stated to be incomplete and aside from the decedent's skull, it is unknown what else was recovered. No items or documents were found at the scene and the police initially assumed the decedent may have been a migrant but later recanted on this hypothesis as the area was mountainous and not where migrants usually ventured to.
The skull was examined by Hamza Žujo, who observed a gunshot wound to their skull alongside soot surrounding the wound leading Hamza and the police to conclude that the victim was a victim of a shooting. Due to the incomplete state of the remains the age, gender, and a post-mortem interval have never been concluded although Bosnian special forces regularly carried out exercises in the same area the decedent was found.
