William Henry "Billy" Hardie was a man whose skeletal remains were found by teenagers near a tennis court on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, in January 1983.
He was identified in June 2023.
Case[]
Due to the condition of his remains, no manner or cause of death could be determined and it is believed they had been at the location for up to five years before he was found.
He was identified in June 2023 after police used genetic genealogy to locate his brother, and the identification was announced publicly in October. Hardie went missing from his home state of New South Wales around 1976 after failing to attend work or collect his pay cheque. It is unclear why he was on Kangaroo Island.
