Beltrami County John Does were at least three unidentified men who, alongside at least six identified men, died in a fire at the Grace Hotel in Kelliher, Minnesota, on February 4, 1914.
Case[]
Some reports say that 9 were killed in the fire. The fire was so bad the victims were described as cremated with their remains unlikely to ever be found.
Only three death certificates were filed for the fire victims; two are listed as unknown, and one is listed for Odin Nicholson, the hotel clerk. The remains of the remaining men are believed to have been destroyed in the fire. There is also speculation that some of the hotel guests had arrived late and had not yet registered. The manager, George Gunderson, was known to let traveling lumberjacks stay overnight in the basement if they could not afford a room. Another victim was identified as M. Laro.
Any remains that were recovered were buried at Fairview Cemetery.
