Bel Ombre John Doe was a man whose skull was discovered buried at a hotel construction site in the Seychelles. Although police have never determined an exact cause of death, Seychelles authorities strongly believe the case to be criminal in nature due to the nature of discovery, as only the skull has been been recovered and bullet casings were found at the scene.

Case[]

On 15 May 2015, construction workers in Bel Ombre, Seychelles, were working on a hotel when they discovered a human skull buried under the dirt. The workers took and uploaded some pictures of the skull before re-burying it in a different location to continue work at the behest of their supervisor. Social media users who saw the pictures told police, who cordoned off the area and were led to the skull's new location.

The skull was missing its lower jaw and no clothing was found in the area. The police discovered bullet casings in the area and used metal detectors to recover more bullets. The police excavated the entire construction site but only found the lower jaw and 5 bullet casings. It is unknown if the casings are related to the decedent. No cause of death was determined, but the decedent's case was investigated as a homicide based on the circumstances. According to a forensic examination, the skull belonged to an adult male.

Four families came forward to inquire about their missing loved ones and police took DNA samples from them. DNA was also extracted from the skull's teeth and the skull and samples were sent to Mauritius for testing. On September 18, it was announced that there wasn't enough DNA left remaining on teeth to form a DNA profile. A second test was carried out and in January 2016, it was revealed that the DNA from the skull did not match any of the four families. The Mauritian forensic scientists also conducted their own examinations and found no fractures or wounds to the skull and that it belonged to a man aged 35-40.
