Atcel Olmedo, formerly known as DuPage Johnny Doe (November 5, 2002 - c. September 2005), was a toddler discovered in Naperville, Illinois.

It is believed he was killed by his abusive stepfather and mother after repeated abuse, according to his surviving siblings. The suspects later fled to their native Mexico and remain at large.

Case[]

Discovery[]

On October 8, 2005, Olmedo's body was discovered alongside Interstate 88, wrapped in a blue laundry bag. The cause of death could not be determined due to the condition of his remains, but it was established that he had been dead for at least several weeks, possibly up to a year.

The DuPage County Medical Examiner determined that the victim was a toddler of Hispanic, Native American, or Asian descent.

Two years after his discovery, on October 15, 2007, he was laid to rest in a local cemetery.

Identification[]

In early 2008, police working on a child abuse case suspected the boy was also a victim of the people they were investigating. The oldest sibling revealed that her younger brother, Atcel Olmedo, had disappeared in 2005. Their mother had planned for Atcel and one of his siblings to move to the U.S. However, when she returned to Mexico, the boy was gone. She claimed that he had gone to live with his biological father.

Olmedo's identity was confirmed in February 2011 after DNA samples were compared. There are no known photographs of him alive, but his sister described the rendering provided by the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children as the closest likeness.

Both the mother and stepfather disappeared after being released on bond in 2008, and it is believed they fled to Mexico City. An $11,000 award is being offered for information to locate his killer.
