Andrei Plesa was a man who lied down on the southbound train tracks at Clapham North underground station in Greater London, England in 2020. The train was unable to stop in time and he was fatally struck.

Case[]

Andrei was a migrant from Romania who did not have family in the UK. He was experiencing homelessness and struggled with mental health issues and substance addiction; with crystal meth found in his system at the time of his death.

Before taking his life at Clapham North station, he had attempted to jump on the tracks at Oval station before being stopped by a commuter who called for assistance. The staff at Oval station declared him fit for travel, allowing him to take the tube to Clapham North.

Andrei had been wanting to travel back to Romania as he was struggling finding work in London, however the pandemic meant it was difficult for his family to fund and arrange travel for him to go. He had been receiving mental health support at the homeless shelter he was residing in a Stockwell, however in the months that lead to his suicide, he had been displaying bizarre behaviour and an inability to form good relationships with staff and fellow homeless residents.
