Agnieszka Wójtowicz (5 June 1976 - c. 1998) was a woman who was found murdered near the village of Międzybrodzie Bialskie, Żywiec County, Poland in 1999.

She was identified on 26 April 2021.

Case[]

Background[]

In 1998, Wójtowicz left her home in Złotoryja, leaving her 2-year-old son in the care of her parents and wasn't seen again. In 2000, Wójtowicz's mother tried to file a missing person report for her but was denied due to the passage of time since she had gone missing.

Discovery[]

A woman's body was found by a resident of Silesian Voivodeship, Poland, who was checking out summer houses for sale. The resident accidentally came across her nude body two meters deep in a concrete tank, which was eventually going to be used as a cesspool.

An autopsy was performed on the woman, which revealed she'd been scalped. It's unknown if this occurred before or after death. Decomposition made it difficult to determine her cause of death, but she may have been strangled, as her thyroid bone was loose. She is believed to have died in the late autumn of 1998.

In the summer of 1999, her case was featured on Telewizyjne Biuro Śledcze, a Polish television show centered around true crime. Despite this, the woman and anybody involved in her death remained unidentified.

The investigation was discontinued on 2 November 1999.

Identification[]

In late January 2021, Wójtowicz's son approached Zaginieni Przed Laty, a volunteer organization devoted to assisting in cases of missing persons, hoping to find his missing mother. A connection was made with the woman found in Międzybrodzie Bialskie. She was exhumed in April 2021, and DNA tests confirmed the woman was Agnieszka Wójtowicz.
